R.I.P. Rammellzee

Rammellzee’s passing announced on Fab Five Freddy’s twitter today.

The dude was so far ahead of his time, no one even knew what it looked like when we all caught up to it. His was the first recorded emcee battle (and it was more like a co-lab that was initially funded by Basquiat) and the first example of true technical styles. He influenced many folks with his Afrofuturism/Gothic Futurist style and Ikonoklast Panzerism ideals and he was probably the first performance artist in hip-hop. I looked forward to meeting and ideally working with the dude one day, but he is now another ascended master whose work will influence us forever after the fact. Check him out and REST IN PEACE. — giovannimarks.net

  1. Wow, that’s too bad… I liked his music but he never really released very much. I know he recorded an album with Th’ Mole as producer that was altered a lot and then never came out… I wonder if that could happen now. It was pretty solid.
