Hockey vs. Rap (Free Mixtape & Tour)

Hockey vs. Rap Tour

DJ Co-op and DJ Hunnicutt are…

Cold Gettin’ Stupid with Cupid 2008: HOCKEY vs. RAP!
A Dance Party and Lecture Tour

Live and Direct across Western Canada! February 13 – March 1st

Winnipeg’s favourite party rockers are taking their 4-turntable extravaganza across western Canada once again. The boys are hoping to convince the world (or at least the West) that violence in hockey is a worse influence on our kids than violent content in Hip-Hop lyrics.

The DJs will be explaining their platform at a series of lectures, which will happen at the 7-11 after the dance party in each city. While Co-op eats all of his tub of nachos, and the uneaten portion (usually half) of Hunnicutt’s, the boys will field questions and discuss the platform.

  1. Sorry, this shit is ridiculous. Why replace one retarded message with another? Either way the C Dolores TUcker “people can’t think for themselves” crowd prevails……

  2. No, clever promo is the first thing that popped into my mind til i watched the news story. Just not a big fan of scapegoating in general…

  3. As an avid hockey and rap fan I find this interesting, and I’m glad that you have The HNIC theme on there, been trying to locate that for awhile.

I always thought violence in hockey or any sport could have a negative effect on kids – from the looks of this though it’s more of a gimmick and really there’s no way to prove any form of violence is worse than others.

My only argument would be that in hockey you’re allowed to fight and in public you aren’t – plus the level of violence (in theory) that hockey would perpetuate would only be fist fights, whereas in rap music you could make the argument it promonts violence with weapons – which is way worse.

But like Cam says – scapegoating is retarded and the only real culprit is poor parenting.

  4. That story is ridiculous. 7-11? Lectures? CBC? lol. Honestly where are their lectures going to be? They are the masters of the crazy press release. They just set a new bar for promo but I hope people aren’t expecting them to play bohemian rap music all night cause they won’t.

But it’s cool that people are actually talking about the violence in both. Parenting! Parenting! Parenting!

7-11 and nachos. Geezuz! The media took the bait on this one.

  5. i nearly pissed myself when she wraps up the piece at the 7-11, hoisting a big gulp. brilliant.

  6. I wish this tour was coming to Saskatoon. It would have been great to debate such a topic especially at 7-11. The radio interview is the best. People getting fired up on news talk radio is the best.

  7. hahahah, finally got to watch the clip. This is like Daily Show/Colbert Report but real. Hunnicutt is hillarious. The 7-11’s? Man this is too much.

Wouldn’t she clue in once the debate in front of 7-11 came into the mix?

  8. that’s hilarious how HNIC has a rap meaning and a hockey meaning

that is to say… I don’t think Prodigy was naming his album Hockey Night In Canada.

  9. Robert Guillaume, Morgan Freeman and Joe Clark also get a chuckle from both. Assuming they watch hockey night in Canada or listen to P.

  10. Ness you watch Lean On Me recently? I actually just watched it Sunday night!

here is the quote wynrush is referring to.

Joe Clark: You’ve tried it your way for years, and your students can’t even pass the State’s Minimum Basic Skills Test. THAT MEANS THEY CAN BARELY READ! Now, they’ve given me one year to turn this place around – to get those test scores up – so that the State will not take us over to perform the task which YOU have failed to accomplish: the task of EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN! So forget about the way it used to be. This is not a damn democracy! We are in a state of emergency and my word is law! There’s only one boss around here, and that’s me. The HNIC.
    [exits]
    Mr. O’Malley: HNIC?
Ms. Levias: Head Nigger In Charge.

  11. Nice, Chaps. I watched it about a month ago and watched it a few months before that. Later on in the film. Robert Guillaume’s character corrects Clarke (Morgan Freeman) and tells him “that contrary to popular belief…I’m the Head Nigger In Charge!!.”

    [Dramatic pause]

    Guillaume: Now, lets go eat….c’mon.

I may be paraphrasing but thats pretty accurate to the dialog. I love that scene.

  12. That sounds correct to me. For such a heated scene it us awesome they just go get something to eat after like it was no big deal.
