The SL-1200 is Dead: Panasonic Scratches Iconic Technics Turntable

We posted about the possible death of Technics around this same time last year, when it was rumoured that Panasonic would be stopping production of Technics turntables in November of 2010, now it looks like those rumours were in fact true after all. On October 20, 2010 Panasonic annouced that it was winding down production of the Technics SL-1200MK6 analog turntable, the SH-EX1200 analog audio mixer and the RP-DH1200 and RP-DJ1200 stereo headphones. Regarding the Technics brand itself, nothing has been decided other than the discontinuation of the mentioned products, the statement said.

Panasonic decided to end production mainly due to a decline in demand for these analog products and also the growing difficulty of procuring key analog components necessary to sustain production… The SL-1200 series Analog Turntable had been in continuous production since 1972. At this point, there are no further plans for putting Analog Turntables in the market.” the company said in statement issued to The Tokyo Reporter.

  1. They actually have a warehouse full of them and will now be auctioning them off on ebay one at a time in 10 years posing as regular consumers. They will make 10x the retail price per sale, its a perfect scheme.

  2. I’m still waiting for some kid to trade me for a guitar amp or some shit lol. I’ve scored so much dope hip hop vinyl for basically nothing over the last 4 years from random scenesters who had dj gigs at local pubs and then realized rap nights are a massive sausage fest and quit.
